Roots and Researchers in ENGLAND
 | Gerald (Jess) Varley, jess@paymentsontime.net. My
Grandfather was William Varley. I have collected some
information regarding my family that will be posted here in the future. I have
visited Norwich many times and have tried to contact relatives. I now live in Canada
but keep in close contact with my sister. As I was adopted I did not meet my sister
until I was 27 years old and it is very important to me to trace my family. I would really
like to hear from anyone who can give me information. (2/99)

be grateful. (6/98)

 | Dr. Mike VARLEY MAVarley@compuserve.com My great
Grandfather was from Iowa, but earlier than this my family originated from Yorkshire
England. We believe the family name to be a corruption of Verley from a 1500's
family based in a place of the same name in Picardy, Northern France. Great Granny
VARLEY was brought up as a teenager out on the Great Plains in the United States and grew
up shooting Indians, so when she came back to England she apparently had great difficulty
in settling back to a more sedate way of life, making life h--e--double--L for the local
lads. She eventually married and had about 10 children. She is still working
on the family story, so if you have anything to share or would like to know more about us,
let me hear from you. (6/98)

 | Valerie Tomlinson, tomlinsn@intertech.net.au. If my
information is correct I am the grand-daughter of Ernest Henry VARLEY (1881-1926).
The story has come to light that Ernest's parents emigrated to America, leaving
Ernest in England, U.K. adopted by a Mr & Mrs Day. Ernest
served in the Royal Artillary 86th brigade, under his adopted name of Ernest Henry Day,
and saw military service in the Boar Ware in South Africa, and the first great war in
France. He suffered war wounds from shrapnell and it is believed that these
attributed to his early death at 45years of age. He married Isobella
Emma CHALKLEY and they lived at Dalton Street and Sandpit Lane, St.Albans,
Hertfordshire, England, U.K. They had seven children Ernest Henry
15/7/1906-1994, Kenneth Stanley 3/9/1911-19/8/1980, Gwendoline, Edward (my father)
20/3/1913-living, Leonard 2/1916-1976, Sidney Alexander 1918-1934, Gerald 8/11/1923-
living. I would welcome any news on our Varley connection in America, England or wherever,
or any other relatives, as the family have become increasingly interested in finding out
'who we really are'. Just a note of interest, I live in Sellicks Beach, South
Australia. |
