Irish VARLEY Roots

Patrick VARLEY, PVarley826@aol.com.    My g-g-grandfather. Pat VARLEY, came from Scotland to the USA in 1868 sent for wife, Ellen (nee Connolly) and two daughters, in 1870. He was born in Ireland, orphaned during famine at age 10. Neighbors sent him to Glasgow to work in mills. Settled in Youngstown, OH area and worked on Railroad from Dunkirk, NY to NE Ohio. They raised six children. The first, Kate (Johns), then Bridget (Barrett), third Nell (probably Elenore) (Savage), Annie (Higgins). Two sons were; John who never married and Thomas, my grandfather. Have not been able to verify what county Pat was born in Ireland... suspect it was County Mayo, Village of Cong area. Any info to share would be helpful. (7/98)

Ian VARLEY, ivarley@snapweb.com.    My father's name was Thomas VARLEY, son of George VARLEY, descended from Michael VARLEY who immigrated to Washington Co, NY from Ireland.  I grew up in Washington Co, not far from the old "VARLEY Farm".  My grandfather sold the farm because he did not care for farm work.   Uncle Richard still lives near Saratoga, NY along with aunt Sue and Clara.  I would love to hear anything more about my VARLEY family lineage, so if you know something, please contact me. (6/98)

Clare Brice CB06@swt.edu.   Ireland>Tennessee>Arkansas.  Looking for Julia VARLEY m. James Higgins in Memphis Tenn. in 1868.  I can't find anything about her or him (where they are from...can't find them on the 70 census and only their children, James and Mary Clare, 11 and 10, show up as foster children in 1880.  Family story says that James came to this country from Ireland and sent for "Mamie" when he had the money to pay her way.  Family story also has them in Ark. in 1870...can't find them. Can you?
